Nordsternpark

Nordsternpark Gelsenkirchen

Typical industrial heritage: the Nordsternpark in Gelsenkirchen has been transformed from a colliery site into a park with playgrounds, restaurants and venues for events in the Ruhr Area.

The Nordsternpark in Gelsenkirchen is a beautiful excursion destination in the Ruhr Area for the whole family. Alongside the industrial monument of the former Nordstern colliery, a model railway world, a children's playground, a restaurant and a beer garden, and an extensive park facility ensure an outing here is varied and fun.

In 1997, the grounds of the former Nordstern colliery were transformed into a parkland under the aegis of the Bundesgartenschau (German Garden Show). A small mining tunnel can still be visited today. As a key attraction on the Route of Industrial Heritage, the park is one of the largest industrial monuments in the Ruhr Area.

A theatre directly on the Rhine-Herne canal regularly serves as a venue for concerts and events. The adventure playground on the southern bank of the canal is a highlight for families with children, as is the water playground. The Nordsternpark is accessible 24 hours a day, and entry is free of charge.
