Fröndenberg
Fröndenberg in the eastern Ruhr Area is embedded in a gorgeous landscape, directly on the Ruhr river. This makes the town the entrance gate to the Metropolis Ruhr for holidaymakers on the Ruhr Valley Cycle Route.
The Ruhr Valley Cycle Route, which covers 230 kilometres from Winterberg to Duisburg and passes directly through Fröndenberg, is a highlight for cycling holidays and short breaks by the Ruhr. However the "Zabel Route", one of speed cyclist Erik Zabel's training tracks, is also ideal for a pleasant cycling excursion. The Westphalian Hiking Trail likewise passes through Fröndenberg, allowing a beautiful hiking holiday by the Ruhr.
The Chainsmithy Museum tells the story of the highly successful chain production for which Fröndenberg was long known. The story of this industrial sector's development in the beautiful town on the Ruhr stretches all the way from manual graft at the forge through to thoroughly automated production. On the first Sunday of every month from April to November, there are demonstrations at the forge in the Chainsmithy Museum.
