TauchRevierGasometer

The Gasometer TauchRevier (scuba-diving centre) is located in the Duisburg-Nord landscape park. The building is a former gas collection vessel for the blast furnace system, and is used for scuba-diving courses, complete with a shipwreck and an artificial reef.

The diving gasometer in the Ruhr Area is Europe's largest artificial diving pool. Water sports enthusiasts can dive down to depths of 13 metres, and the gasometer has a diameter of 45 metres. Depending on the season, the water temperature varies between 7 and 26°C. Trial diving Beginners can gather a little experience on trial diving courses. Every participant receives safety training and a complete set of equipment, and an experienced diving instructor accompanies the beginners for approx. 20 minutes down to a depth of 4 minutes. But it is also possible to sign up for longer courses and to get certified. The conditions in the diving gasometer in Duisburg are so good that even police and fire service divers come here to train. Diving in the gasometer is just one original example of the reutilisation of old industrial plants in the Ruhr Area. Going on a single dive at the gasometer could enrich your city break in the Ruhr metropolis, and it is a worthwhile excursion destination

Duisburg

The rivers Rhine and Ruhr, the Rhine-Herne canal, one of the largest inland harbours in the world, the Six Lakes, Lake Toepper and Lake Uettelsheim... The list of all the waters which give Duisburg its maritime atmosphere could be extended at will. It’s no wonder that there is so much going on in and around the water in Duisburg. Regular tours of the harbour, two water-ski courses, boat hire facilities, several yachting and sailing clubs, countless angling clubs and the yachting marina in the inner harbour can easily mislead visitors into thinking that Duisburg is situated on the water’s edge and not inland.
