The City of Duisburg is the centre of the Discovery Area RUHR Cultural Harbour, and is located in the western part of the Ruhr Area. The subject of "water" plays a special role in Duisburg. With its numerous tourist attractions, Duisburg is one of the top addresses for a city break in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The Innenhafen Duisburg (Inner Harbour) has developed into a nightlife district, dotted with countless restaurants and bars. On the attractive promenade, guests stroll between industrial heritage and the modern. A marina for sports boats also draws water tourists into the centre of Duisburg. The Küppersmühle Museum is also one of the most important art museums in the Ruhr Area, located in the Innenhafen district.
From the Schwanentor Bridge by the Innenhafen district, it is possible to go on interesting excursions by boat around the largest inland harbour in the world. On the trip around the harbour system, visitors can learn a lot about one of the most important logistical centres in Germany.
With its six lakes, the Sechs-Seen-Platte to the south of the city is ideal for excursions, where visitors can relax in peace and quiet amidst green surroundings.
The Duisburg-Nord landscape park is a highlight in the Ruhr Area. It is an absolute must for any short holiday in the Ruhr Area, and at the same time is a hub of the Route of Industrial Heritage. The former blast furnace plant of Thyssen is best discovered on foot. The sunset from blast furnace 5 followed by a torchlit tour of the illuminated park are a perfect end to a vacation day in the Ruhr Area.
