Zeche Zollern
"Mansion of labour" is the name given by contemporaries to arguably the most beautiful colliery in the Ruhr area. Zollern colliery was famous in Dortmund above all for the plant floor, with its art nouveau entrance. A major attraction, Zollern is now one of the highlights on the Route of Industrial Heritage. It is a major excursion destination in Dortmund and should not be missed during a city break in the Ruhr area.
The museum in Zollern colliery in Dortmund presents the social and cultural history of mining in the Ruhr area. The world of hard graft and the working conditions in mining are revealed. In addition examples of the lives of men and women are presented.
Young visitors to Zollern colliery during a family break in the Ruhr area delight in the superb playground directly beneath the winding tower. In the neighbouring restaurant visitors enjoy typical food from the Ruhr area. On the premises of Zollern colliery you can also find numerous relicts of the mining history in the Ruhr area. Due to renovation work the plant floor can currently only be visited as part of guided tours.
