Museum am Ostwall

The Ostwall Museum has now for a short time been located in the new Dortmunder U, and for exhibitions of modern and contemporary art it continues to be one of the best museums in the Ruhr Area.

In the Capital of Culture Year 2010, the Ostwall Museum moved into the Dortmunder U, the new creative quarter in the eastern Ruhr Area. As one of the cultural highlights in Dortmund, the Ostwall Museum presents art from the 20th and 21st centuries.

The Ostwall Museum predominantly displays works of Expressionism, Flux, Nouveau Réalisme and Concrete Poetry. The ideal starting point for your city break in the Ruhr Area. Originally located in a building against the East Wall ('Ostwall'), the Ostwall Museum in the Dortmunder U has become an art highlight in the new creative quarter directly next to the central station.

Visitors can prepare themselves optimally at the RUHR.VISITORCENTER in the Dortmunder U for a city break in the Ruhr Area, and with the Ostwall Museum they have one of the top attractions in Dortmund right there in the same building complex.

City of Dortmund

The city was once dominated by pithead towers and steel mills, but now the factory chimneys have long been extinguished and a process of transformation is underway. The new motto could well be called “setting out for new shores”, for today the city is lit up in a bright array of colours. In short, Dortmund has now become a modern and highly entertaining city.
