LWL-Industriemuseum Zeche Nachtigall (Nightingale Mine)

The first lumps of black gold were mined from the slopes of the Ruhr almost 200 years ago. At Nachtigall (Nightingale) Colliery, we will take you back to the time when miners just went straight inside the horizontal tunnels to get at the coal and later dug the first shafts into the ground.

Equipped with a helmet and miner’s lamp, you can access our visitors mine via narrow gangways to a genuine coal streak and experience the unique atmosphere of a historical underground mine. One of the oldest hauling engines in the Ruhr Revier can be seen operating in the machine building. Our museum is located in the idyllic Mutten Valley and directly on the Ruhr Valley Cycle Route.
