St. Anthony Ironworks

In 1758, the iron heart of the Ruhr Revier started to beat. The St. Antony Ironworks is the nucleus of the steel industry and was the origin of the Gutehoffnungshütte global corporation.

Today, a museum reminds us of the beginnings of the iron and steel industry. It tells visitors about significant innovations and the hardships of the people’s everyday lives. In the 1,000 square metre LVR Industrial Archaeological Park on the opposite side, the exposed remains of the old plant bring the impressive history of the ironworks back to life.

The Eisenheim Museum is situated in the immediate vicinity, as part of the oldest workers’ settlement in the Ruhr Area.
