Skulpturenmuseum Glaskasten Marl

The Glaskasten ("Glass Box") is a museum of sculpture in Marl, and is one of the most exciting museums in the Ruhr Area. Fans of culture should definitely plan in a visit during their city break in the Ruhr metropolis.

The name "Skulpturenmuseum Glaskasten" ("Glass Box Museum of Sculpture") describes on the one hand the venue, the glass-enclosed space of the museum under the conference block of the Marl town hall. On the other hand, it also illuminates the desired capacity of the contents to express the concept of openness and transparency for all.

The artworks in Marl are not hidden behind museum walls, but to a great extent are incorporated into the everyday life of the town. The collection of the sculpture museum gives an overview of the development of sculpture in the 20th century. While the smaller sculptures are displayed within the museum itself, around 70 larger pieces are presented nearby in public spaces, but also in various locations around the town.
