Schloss Strünkede

The moated palace at Strünkede is one of the most beautiful tourist attractions in Herne and one of the most beautiful palaces in the Ruhr Area.

The museum located in the magnificent Renaissance structure dating from the 16th and 17th centuries is a popular excursion destination. The palace chapel was constructed by Bernd von Strünkede in 1272, and is today the oldest preserved structure in Herne.

On a tour of the museum, visitors discover a colourful collection of Biedermeier furniture, mammoth bones, valuable timepieces and ceramics. These illustrate the nobler side of the Ruhr metropolis' history.
