Duisburg Zoo is one of the best zoos in the Ruhr area and is situated in the middle of the Kaiserberg woodland area. A total of more than 2,000 animals and more than 280 species make the zoo an attractive excursion destination especially for families.
The most modern dolphinarium in Germany, with a two million-litre seawater pool, is the highlight of Duisburg Zoo and thrills visitors with breathtaking shows. A Caribbean palm-lined beach serves as a beautiful setting for the bottle-nosed dolphins. Group tours in the Ruhr area also feature the dolphinarium as a key attraction during a tour through the Metropolis Ruhr.
Another attraction is the ape house and for children in particular the petting zoo. A hint of East Asia is conveyed by the Chinese Garden with its water pavilion and an arched bridge, a gift from Duisburg's twin town Wuhan in China from 1988. Australian koala bears with their young, fossas, the largest predators of Madagascar, free-roaming ring-tailed lemurs, elephants and lions, giraffes and seals also look forward to your visit.
