City shopping in Duisburg

The Duisburg city centre offers an attractive range of shopping opportunities and is developing more and more into a real shopping paradise. Many chain stores, department stores and specialist stores string together the Königsstraße, the Sonnenwall, the Münzstraße and the surrounding streets and make the shopping trip into a diversified experience. Additionally, street cafés, benches and parks offer themselves for lingering or eating.

Königstraße
The Königstraße as the main shopping promenade is home to many retail shops, boutiques and department stores. Restaurants, ice cream parlours and bakeries provide food and drink during an extensive shopping tour. The arcade-like roofing allows you to wander along most of the Königstraße without getting wet when the weather is bad.

Every shopping fan will profit three-fold from the Königstraße, as there are three shopping malls in addition to the city shopping experience! The Forum Duisburg is one of the most modern German shopping centres integrated in city centres and offers retail, catering and leisure fun on approx. 60,000 m². Directly opposite is the >> CityPalais Duisburg, a fascinating building which brings together a small shopping mall, restaurants and bistros, the Mercatorhalle which houses Duisburg's philharmonic hall, a congress centre, the tourist information and also Germany's most modern >> casino – all in one building. The third shopping centre is the Königsgalerie Duisburg, which offers a wide range of shops and eating establishments.

Düsseldorfer Straße
The Düsseldorfer Straße is one of the longest streets in the City of Duisburg, of which only a small part belongs to the vibrant pedestrian precinct of the city centre. Here, shopping fans can find, for example, "Galeria Kaufhof", a book store, a bag and suitcase shop, banks, a brewery and the Art Nouveau building of the Folkwang University of the Arts Duisburg close together.

Thus, Duisburg is really worthwhile for both open air shoppers and mall fans. This makes Duisburg an attractive shopping city regardless of the weather.
