Castrop-Rauxel, located in the north of the Ruhr Area, particularly stands out thanks to its industrial heritage sights and is therefore an interesting destination for a short break.

 

The Erin Colliery Hammer Head Tower is one of the highlights of Castrop-Rauxel and forms part of the Industrial Heritage Route. A Celtic tree circle surrounds the former colliery tower in remembrance of the founder Thomas Mulvany.

The Schwerin Slagheap - complete with accessible sundial - also forms part of the Industrial Heritage Route. As the highest point of Castrop-Rauxel, this former slagheap is an important landmark as well as at the same time being an excursion destination for local recreation.

Fans of culture are well catered for in the form of the Westphalian Regional Theatre based in Castrop-Rauxel, the Greek AGORA Cultural Centre as well as the "Parkbad Süd" Cultural Site. Guests who have an interest in particular architecture should pay a visit to the Town Hall designed by the Danish architect Arne Jacobsen. The "Reiterbrunnen" fountain located in the old town of Castrop is also a popular meeting point.
