The municipality of Bönen in the district of Unna provides its visitors with industrial monuments and cultural events and can be considered to be an insiders' tip for daytrips in the Ruhr Area.

The Königsborn III/IV colliery is an excellent example of economic restructuring in the Metropolis Ruhr and an interesting sight on the Industrial Heritage Route. The winding tower that is 60 metres tall and can be seen for miles around is the most important monument of Bönen and represents over 80 years of mining history. Today, a wide range of cultural events - from cabaret to music concerts - take place in the former colliery. A particular highlight is the piece of light art entitled "Yellow Marker".

The baking house in the Flierich area impressively illustrates the life of the rural population of 1900. With its medieval village centre and typical half-timbered houses, the area was even voted Flierich Golden Village in 1994. Flierich is an excursion destination that is well worth a visit, particularly when on cycling tours or hiking.
