The 'Jahrhunderthalle' in Bochum is both industrial monument and cultural highlight in one. It is an anchor point on the Route of Industrial Heritage, and a venue for events such as concerts, theatre and shows. With its Ruhrtriennale, the 'Jahrhunderthalle' is home to the most important cultural festival in the Ruhr Area.

As a prime example of the economic restructuring in the Ruhr Area, Bochum's 'Jahrhunderthalle' is characteristic of the new understanding of culture in the Metropolis Ruhr. It is the centre of the Festspielplatz RUHR (Festival Venue RUHR), Bochum's landmark, and dares to break down the boundaries between tradition and modernity.

The events held in the 'Jahrhunderthalle' include concerts during the Ruhr Piano Festival, ExtraSchicht, the 1Live Krone radio prize award ceremony, and the Poetry Slam. The 'Jahrhunderthalle' was originally built by the company Meyer & Kühne for the Düsseldorf Trades Exhibition in 1902. Due to the remarkable steel structure, the hall was rebuilt in Bochum after the exhibition.

The Westpark Alongside the architecture of the 'Jahrhunderthalle' itself, its location in Bochum's Westpark is also of significance. This was laid out during the International Emscher Park Construction Exhibition. The formerly abandoned industrial facility thus developed into a local recreation area, popular both with the population of Bochum and with cyclists and hikers.
