The Railway Museum in Bochum-Dahlhausen is one of the most popular museums in the Ruhr Area, particularly with families. It presents more than 200 historical railway vehicles, signals and much more associated with the development of the railways.

 

On highlight is the fully functional 20-metre turntable of the last fully preserved steam locomotive railway depot. The focus of the Bochum-Dahlhausen Railway Museum is not just on the preservation and presentation of the exhibition pieces, however.

The museum also offers a typical railway environment, with all the corresponding buildings and technical equipment. This makes the Railway Museum unique in the entire Ruhr Area. The former railway depot is now a really special exhibition for railway enthusiasts. Locomotives were still repaired here until the late 1960s.

In particular during the industrialisation process and the heyday of the mining industry in the Ruhr Area, locomotives were the most important means of transport for moving raw materials.

Bochum

Bochum is the Festival Centre in the Metropolitan Ruhr Area, whose attractions draw visitors from far and wide. You can visit the Hall of the Century, a huge old industrial building with a gabled roof and ridge turrets which was once an old gas blower and dynamo station.
